UPDATE&CORRECT: Oil mine collapses in Komi Republic, two people hurt

(Corrects to say that oil, not coal mine has collapsed, adds details in last paragraph)

MOSCOW, Jul 20 (PRIME) -- An oil mine belonging to Lukoil-Komi collapsed in the Komi Republic on Thursday hurting two people, under preliminary data, a representative of the republic’s emergency services told PRIME.

“The collapse of the rock occurred at a depth of 194 meters. Two miners were injured,” he said, adding that the injured were in a moderately grave condition.

There were five people on the emergency site and three of them managed to leave independently.

A total of over 110 people were in the mine at the moment of incident, there was no evacuation and operations of the mine were not ceased.

According to Lukoil-Komi’s Web site, the Yaregskoye field in the Komi Republic has been developed since 1939 and is Russia’s only site where oil is produced both via underground and surface methods.
